Royal Bengal Tiger
25" x 19" Pastel on pastelboard
This is perhaps my grandest pastelwork to date. Inspired by my recent trip to
the Royal Chitwan National Park in Nepal, this painting is of 'Eastern Bhali'
the dominant male tiger in the park. He has come to a waterhole to drink, as
the sun breaks down the mists of a Chitwan winters morning.

Bhagya. Leopard - Nepal.
14" x 10" Pastel on pastelboard
In January 03 I visited Nepal to meet with Bhagya the Indian Leopard, rescued
from the wild and cared for by my good friends Angie and Andreas Schumacher.
Bhagya was found half drowned and starving after his mother is believed to
have been swept downriver in a monsoon. Thanks to their incredible efforts,
he is now a young adult leopard in his prime.

Persian Leopard Portrait
14"x12" Oil on canvas
My big cat portraits are becoming increasingly popular, and thanks to the
wonderful world of Giclee' printing are now available to a much larger
audience. I am particulary pleased with this one. To work so finely in oils
does take a long time and can be a real test of patience but I hope you will
agree that the result is well worth the effort.

The elusive snow Leopard lives in the frozen mountains from Mongolia to the Himalayas. Fewer than 8000 of these magnificent cats remain in the wild.

Portrait of a Young Male Lion
20"x24" Acrylic on Canvas
Lions are my favourite animals. I am filled with admiration for them. Here, a young Tanzanian male is illuminated in the morning sunlight. I love the way light plays on fur.

Serengeti Sunset
42"x20" Oil on Canvas
I know what you're thinking! ...EVERYONE who see's this painting immediately says 'Lion King'
and I am at pains to point out that I painted this picture many years before the Lion King was made.
I do consider it a compliment though, as the Disney Artists are superb, but it would be
nice if the next time you see the Lion King you say to yourself 'Eric Wilson!'

I once crept up really close to a pride of lions, everything was fine until this little chap discovered me and raised the alarm. I had to beat a hasty retreat!

Prince of the Mopaneveld
28"x36" Oil on Canvas
North of the Olifants river in South Africa's Kruger national park, lies the Mopaneveld,
named after the leguminous mopane tree which dominates this region. In the dry season
paired leaves of these trees which are said to resemble the footprint of an antelope, turn
a beautiful golden brown before they fall. Here a 'would be' king contemplates his future.
With this painting I wanted to portray a lion in a very different way, yet still convey
an authentic natural setting.
